Children's Literature in Turbulent Times (Live Online)
Children are capable of not only surviving difficult times, but also thriving in the midst of them. This class will explore how children find inner strength in turbulent times. We will use Gary D. Schmidt’s Newbery Honor winning Wednesday Wars as the main text. This story is set in 1968, amid the Vietnam War and protests around the country. Appropriate picture books will also be used. This class will be appropriate for all elementary and middle school teachers as well as school librarians. Participants will benefit from expanding their knowledge of children’s literature and learning how to help students develop a love of reading.
