Booker Taliaferro Washington
1856-1915
Graduate of Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute, attended Wayland Seminary. First leader of Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee Alabama. Worked with donors to fund construction of thousands of public schools for black children in rural southern US.
